There are many ways to support your library - from making a donation to volunteering.

Financial donations

Donations to the Huntsville Public Library help support the purchase of library materials and support programs and services. Use our online donation form if you would like to make a donation to the Library.

Donations of materials (books, DVDs, CDs, etc.)

We accept donations of books, DVDs and CDs. You can submit one box of materials at a time to our central service desk. Donated materials become the property of the Library.

Material donation guidelines

We accept

  • Books that are in good condition.
    • Hardcover & paperback fiction.
    • Non-fiction books less than 5 years old, with the exception of: cookbooks, crafts, gardening and visual arts.
    • Children's books: picture books, board books, fiction etc.
  • DVDs and CDs in good condition.

We do not accept

  • Old and outdated books.
  • Books in poor condition: yellow pages, torn/ripped pages, musty.
  • Encyclopedias, text books and reference books.
  • Magazines and newspapers.
  • Readers Digest condensed books

Friends of the Library

A registered charity, the Friends of the Library are a voluntary, non-profit group founded in 1990 to promote programs, services and facilities of the Huntsville Public Library.

What we do

  • Improve library collections.
  • Buy equipment such as: computers, lounge chairs, gallery hangings, etc.
  • Provide funding for performers in partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion during March Break and the summer.
  • Provide funds for capital projects, for example: shelving, technologies, etc.

How we raise funds

  • Sell books from the boutique at the front of the library.
  • Special book sales at Christmas and during the spring and summer.
  • Interest from investments.
  • Donations.

All donations are welcome. Donations of $15 and more will receive a tax receipt. Charity registration number 888319464.

Become a Friend

Join the Friends of the Library, new members are always welcome. Meetings are held six to eight times per year at the Huntsville Library.

Volunteer

We invite you to share your time and talents with the Huntsville Public Library through volunteer activities.

How to volunteer

Apply to become a volunteer. Download and fill in the form, and then press the submit button at the bottom to complete it.

Additional information:

  • You must be at least 14 years of age.
  • Volunteer recruitment includes an interview and reference checks.
  • Some positions need a police record check.
