Sustainability @ the Library

The following initiatives are just some of the ways we are committed to sustainability here at Huntsville Public Library. Explore the links below to see how you can get involved today. For more information on the Town of Huntsville's commitment to sustainability, visit their webpage.

Sustainability Collection

Check out our sustainability collection for a wide variety of materials covering subjects from politics and natural resources to fun craft ideas for the whole family. View the subject listing guide to see a full list of all the subjects, related search terms and popular items in the sustainability collection.

Solar Panels

In spring 2013, the Town of Huntsville made application to the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) micro FIT program and was successful in securing contracts for 6 Town-owned buildings. The solar panels on the roof of the Huntsville Public Library were connected to the grid in February 2014 by the selected contractor, Greenside Electric. You can view the Quarterly Summary of Data Documents for the solar panels on the Town of Huntsville Solar Panels webpage..

Battery Recycling

As part of the Town partnership with Raw Materials Company (RMC), you can drop off your dead batteries in the front lobby to be recycled by RMC. The batteries are taken to a plant in Ontario where 98% of the materials are recycled. For more information on the process visit RMC's website.

Important: Please tape the ends of your batteries before depositing them into the bin. This helps to ensure they do not short circuit.
