Computer and Technology Classes

Huntsville Public Library offers FREE computer classes for adults. The sessions aim to help you understand and feel comfortable using some of today's commonly used software and technologies. Sessions cover the basics and are designed with you and your needs at the fore.

STARTING JANUARY 15, 2020!

Classes are scheduled for Wednesdays 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

All classes require registration.  Call 705-789-5232 or come to the Circulation Service desk at the library.


 Computers for Beginners: Use the Internet
Wednesday, January 15, 2020, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

A class for absolute beginners with little computer experience. In this session you will:

  • Learn how search engines work and when to use them
  • Differentiate between a browser and a search engine
  • Conduct a simple search with the search engine Google
  • Understand web site addresses (URLs) and authority
  • Practice using web site addresses to visit web sites
  • Learn about different areas of a web site. Practice using a web site home page to explore the

Bring Your Own Device: Hands-on Tips & Tricks
Wednesday, Februrary 19, 2020, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Need help with using your smartphone, tablet, or laptop? Bring in your device (and library card) and learn more about basic practices for navigating your apps (email, social media, browsing) and accessing library resources such as online books, audiobooks, newspapers and many more.

Consumer Reports Database

Get access to this database with your valid Huntsville Public Library card.

Create a Facebook Page for Your Business
Wednesday, March 4, 2020, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Learn how to create a Facebook page for your business and how this type of page can help your business grow. Basic keyboarding and mouse skills required.

Requirements: For Facebook account creation and adherence to Facebook authentication processes, participants must have a mobile phone which is required for the two-step verification system for account security. Participants must be aware they will be creating a Facebook Page different and separate from their personal page. Bring your own, fully charged Windows 10 laptop.


Email Made Manageable: Gmail & Attachments
Wednesday, March 11, 2020, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

This class focuses on how you can send and receive attachments in your email.

Requirements:  Participants must have their own devices and know the passwords to their devices and have a cell phone for use in 2-step security authentication. Basic keyboarding and mouse skills required. Participants must bring their own devices.

Come to the library and improve your computer skills using apps! Staff will show you how to use your device to find, download, and launch your apps.  You will use the Internet to find credible information and reviews on apps in which you are interested.
