Outdoor Storytime

Interested in reading picture books outdoors at an activity offered to only five families at a time, with physical distancing? Outdoor Storytime includes picture books, songs, rhymes, bounces, finger plays, and actions with shakers and educational scarves. Aimed at kids ages 0-6 with their parent/caregiver. Register for a session of 25-minute Outdoor Storytimes at Avery Beach!

Outdoor Storytime will be held at Avery Beach on the grass beside the shelter. In the case of rain, we will set up under the shelter. Feel free to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Please note, the grass may become muddy.

COVID-19 Safety Precautions & What to Expect

  • Please complete a COVID-19 self assessment before coming to Outdoor Storytime, and follow the direction provided. 
  • We ask all participants to stay at home when feeling unwell.
  • When you arrive, library staff will complete an on-site, in-person screening. The screening program will keep an attendance log for 30 days if Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit requires contact tracing.
  • Participants must maintain physical distancing of 2m from anyone not in their household. Hula hoops will be placed on the ground four meters apart to help indicate where to sit with your child(ren) for physical distancing. We sanitize Hula hoops between Outdoor Storytime time slots.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available.
  • We offer Outdoor Storytime to only five families at a time.
  • Singing permitted with masks and physical distancing. If you and your child/grandchild age 2+ will join in singing, please wear a mask at Outdoor Storytime
  • Library staff will wear masks.
  • Participants are requested to bring their own shakers and scarves for rhymes.
  • Participants are requested to leave the Outdoor Storytime area at Avery Beach soon after the end of their Storytime so that library staff can sanitize the Hula hoops and welcome the next small group of five families.
