Commitment to Accessibility

Huntsville Public Library is committed to including everyone in our library community. Regardless of ability, our facilities are accessible and our collections are available in formats that meet a variety of needs. We support and follow the principles and guidelines of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

Access to the Library, Accessible Collections and Assistive Devices

Access to the Library

You will find accessible parking spaces, a ramp to the front door and automatic door openers. Inside the library, meeting rooms and washrooms there is generous room for wheelchairs, walkers and other mobility devices. We have a walker available if you need it. Guide-dogs are welcome. Our staff is always happy to assist you.

Accessible collections

In the library we offer:

  • Large print books
  • Audiobooks on CD
  • We are happy to help you find publications and documents in other accessible formats. Please contact the Central Service Desk.

In the Virtual Library we offer:

  • eBooks and audiobooks from OverDrive which provides text size and font options including OpenDyslexic font
  • Films from Kanopy with descriptive audio and/or closed captioning 

Assistive devices

We have assistive devices that might be useful for you.

  • Enlarge text and images with our ClearView+ Optelec print magnifier.
  • Listen to books using our DAISY reader\VICTOR Reader Stratus. This device can be checked out from the library for home use. With it's large tactile buttons and speaker or headphone options, the VICTOR Reader can play Daisy or MP3 audiobooks.
  • Use our accessible computer with a screen reader and a large print keyboard.

Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA)

Visit the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA).  CELA offers accessible, alternative ways of reading, including:
  • DAISY audiobooks
  • Braille
  • E-text
  • Described video

Request titles

Request titles yourself from the CELA collection, or CELA can select titles for you based on your reading interests. CELA will deliver materials to your home, or you can download them directly to a DAISY Reader or other device.

Register for CELA's services

Please register for CELA services. An active library card is required to register.

The Huntsville Public Library website is accessible and easy to use for everyone. Our website complies with the World Wide Web Consortium Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.  This is a requirement of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
