In this session Supported by International Dyslexia Association Branch of Ontario we will look at:

  • Understanding dyslexia and common myths and facts.
  • Develop an understanding of how the brain learns to read
  • Literacy through an Equity Lens
  • Decodable Books as a tool to support dyslexia

Presenter: Leigh Fettes, OCT Educator and IDA Volunteer

Thursday, October 13 at 6:00 - 7:00 PM | Virtual presentation on Zoom

More Details About the Presentation

Did you know that dyslexia is the most common cause of reading difficulties? Or that risk factors for dyslexia can be identified in children as young as four years old? Did you know that when dyslexia is identified and appropriate intervention starts before the end of kindergarten reading difficulties can be prevented or greatly minimized?

This presentation will provide information that is useful and relevant for supporting any pre-school aged child, or any older child who is having trouble learning to read and write. We will discuss common myths and misconceptions about reading development and dyslexia, many of which have led to well intentioned but ineffective supports being provided to children. We will outline the components of effective literacy instruction and intervention and answer your questions about how to support your child's reading development both home and at school.
